In this post I’ll discuss SSD endurance and how this affects your choice of SSD, plus give you some rules of thumb for making the right choice. My first post discussed the role of latency in storage architectures. Computer & Video Games magazine awarded Bird Mother a fairer score of 33/40.This is my second post in the “Speeds, Feeds, and Needs” blog series, designed to explain the more technical elements of enterprise storage in terms that are understandable to everyone.
PCG did however praise it for being divergent from the many and popular shooting games. A bit of a harsh score in my opinion the insects do require accuracy to catch (as do the twigs), but if it weren’t for this the game would barely be a challenge. Despite its originality and good playability, Personal Computer Games magazine only gave it a score of 26/40, citing the difficulty of catching the insects in stage 2, and finding the music annoying. This game was a C64 exclusive with no ports to other systems. Once they are the same size as the mother bird you win the game. Each time you do this they grow a bit bigger. You must use your body to push the babies out of its way while herding them from the nest to the tree on the other side of the screen, and then back again. Unfortunately there is a large predatory bird/pterodactyl thing flying around looking for snacks. If you manage to avoid him and feed each baby 3 times, it then moves onto the final stage where the babies have just fledged. You need to watch out for an old man at the bottom of the screen who really seems to hate birds for reasons unknown, evidenced by the fact that he’ll occasionally throw his cane into the air hard enough to kill you. The next stage then commences where you need to feed the baby birds that have just hatched, and multiple bugs are flying around to help you achieve this. Do this a few times and a small cutscene occurs where the bird lays eggs and sits on them. It takes you through all the stages of bird life, beginning with nest building, where you have to collect twigs that are falling from the sky while avoiding rocks and other debris that are also falling. Asylum commodore 64 c64 80's screenshot retro gamesīird Mother was a fun 1984 game from Creative Sparks that I enjoyed playing as a kid. Excellent graphics also helped make the game fun to play, even gaining preference among reviewers of it over the OG and well-loved text adventure, Adventure.ġ6 months after its release, Asylum had sold 5000 copies and was recognized by Computer Gaming World among their list of top sellers, as well as netting many favorable reviews. Although the confusing maze of corridors can become frustrating, the game redeemed itself by having a good story with the right amounts of weirdness and humor and the occasional curveball you don’t see coming, like being crushed to death by a piano if you happen to look up. The gameplay consists of typing commands and moving by use of the arrow keys. Your objective is to escape the maze-like asylum, and during the progression of the game you discover that not only the residents are mad. In Asylum, you are some random schlub who’s been committed to an insane asylum despite not being insane. This game, along with a few previous titles released by publisher Med Systems, are some of the earliest examples of 3D games. Denman’s Asylum was a text adventure with accompanying line graphics released in 1981, originally for the TRS-80 and ported to the C64 in 1985.
